QTVR of new Imperial Fighter

Time for yet another 3D picture thread... ;)Okay, to be honest, I wasn't very pleased with how my first Imperial Fighter turned out. It ended up lumpy and too organic. Thus, I scrapped it and started over. Here's a shot of the Mark II. Also, I've made a QuickTime VR file of it. If you are unfamiliar with QTVR, don't worry. As long as you have QuickTime installed, you should be able to view it. Simply drag it around to see all sides. I would've made the VR smoother with more angles, but I didn't want to wait the extra rendering time. Here's the link. It weighs in at a massive 12 MB, but I wanted to keep 100% quality. Sorry! :cheesy:http://brad.project-think.com/starfleet ... 1qtvr.movI think I'm keeping this model. This time I payed closer attention to make it more of a 'canon' ship and fit closer to the show's screengrabs and comic scans. Obviously, it needs some textures, but I'll fix those later. Also, I plan on adding an oval hatch/emblem on the right side as seen in some of the comics. I've thought about landing struts, as mentioned in Nigel's thread, but I can't decide exactly where to put them. In the comics, it looks like the ship is simply hovering!Oh well, next I'm going to make something very simple like maybe some EDF transports. Eventually I'll try to fix and finish the old X-Bomber I have, but I'm a terrible procrastinator.

Well, since my new Fighter isn't generating much discussion (which doesn't surprise me since that's the 4th 3d fighter shown here so far), here's an EDF transport to think about:It's modeled from the pictures in the LookIn comics, namely this one and this one. I'm debating whether of not to add a third "intake" on the top (like in the comic). Of course, this model is also lacking textures and I haven't implemented any landing gear or cargo doors yet.All in good time...

Hmmmm... I just noticed in that second comic linked to above that these personnel transports seem to be latched onto the larger cargo ships... maybe pulling them along like a tugboat. If that's so, I'll definitely need to add an interface for some connection on top.(Edited by Bradster at 6:08 am on Mar. 1, 2002)

Ah yes, I see what you mean. There's also a shuttle in the series itself that reminds me of what appears in the comics - it's what the lads first arrive on Moonbase in. I'll add getting a screengrab of it to my list of things to do - I'm doing a wee bit of tinkering at the moment with my new kit and hopefully I'll add a few more images to the site. I'll also put up a screengrab of the EDF freighter from the series - I have some grabs of that on the hard drive at home...

I tried to ignore that since one would think that Star Fleet had advanced a tad bit more in 1020 years.

That shuttle should look great. I like the LookIn strips a great deal, and the shuttles from the strip look like they could have come from the series, unlike a lot of comic adaptations (I'm thinking Star Wars here) which seems to pay no heed to the style/design of the original ships. All the EDF kit from the show seems to have that chunky feel to them using basic shapes and structure.Has anyone had a go at the Imperial Battle Cruiser yet? That must be a difficult one?Shane. Okay, here's a minor update on the transport. I've got the texture looking okay and have tinkered with some particle emitters to make a nice engine flare. Now, the engine looks really superb when animated. I've patched on a simple docking interface if I want to hook it to the larger ships. I've built some fairly detailed landing gear (tis a shame you'd never see them up close) but haven't built the "doors" for them yet. Also, the aft section isn't shaped how I want yet. I'll certainly add some blocky, sharp edges around the back eventually. Here's a snapshot:And here's a 2 MB QuickTime VR movie. I put in fewer frames so it'd be a bit easier to download.http://brad.project-think.com/starfleet ... _vr.movHeh, you have a good point there, Shane. I haven't even considered building an Imperial Battle Cruiser yet. That things has SO many little bits and pieces; it'll take a lot more polygons than I'm ready to work with now. Needless to say, it's a daunting task.

Now it's reminding me of Buck Rogers' shuttle and possibly something else anime - love the engine exhaust...
