Well I finally coughed up the cash a few days ago as an excuse to stop running around trying to move things. I really wasn't sure I was going to like it, but as much as it was aimed at kids I did find it more palatable than, say, Spy Kids (although again that's well done for what it is). I thought the redesigns of the vehicles worked quite well although I suspect the die hard fans will have been annoyed. There was for example a little nagging voice in the back of my mind when they decided to use Thunderbird 4, because I though "Wait a minute, that never got loaded onto the pod" and then lo and behold it comes shooting out of the aft section of Thunderbird 2. Actually not a bad idea, as that means it's always available, but I couldn't help raising a mental eyebrow at that one.Now, the borderline extreme campness aside, there was something that really really annoyed me. Two words: Product Placement. Now, it's increasinly done in movies I know, but there's generally a mix and it's not entirely rammed down your throat. But come on. Ford was absolutely everywhere - it was sponsoring the news (?!), the cars in the tornado were Fords, even the random 4 by 4 on Tracy Island had an enormous Ford badge on the front of it! Auto fans would probably find more references. Too much.The effects were good, although I think someone needs to have a word about Thunderbird 3's re-entry angle. As for Frakes' input - I'm sure there was something, which I can't remember at the moment, which smacked of Trek technobabble...Anyway, all in all I think it could have been far worse and probably worth picking up on DVD for the inevitable commentaries and the like. As long as you watch it bearing in mind the target audience it's fine, and there are actually some quite interesting little elements in the plot.
