The stuff without effects added? Yes, that's been around a while I think. They're putting a lot into it. I'd suggest you keep it spoiler free for those who aren't familiar with the lead-in to ANH...

I think the word on the street is The Duel is going to be the longest in Film history, lots of locations and lots of moves, like Obi and Maul in Phantom on speed! And surely everyone knows the outcome of this one? Shane.

Hiya Gareth, how's it going?I Think the Special Editions are now the only useable masters available. Lucas made the Special Editions to actually save the then degraded negatives. Plus the guy has lost the plot and want's his vision of the saga made available despite your man in the streets requests for the original movies the way they were, if nothing else but for an historical reference.I think an episode of South Park summed it all up perfectly.Shane.

It's a curious bit of revisionist film making, isn't it? I would have thought that through some jiggery-pokery you should be able to either ignore or substitute the new elements with the old and effectively have both versions on the same disc. As you say Shane, they restored the negative so surely the whole of ANH at least as originally done is OK? I mean, if he were going to go the whole way you'd think he'd CGI all the exterior ships shots to make it consistent - makes you wonder just how far he'd go given the technology...

There's always something that nags me when I watch the latest 2 installments: I can't help thinking they were made very much at the expense of the originals and that Star Wars (at the moment) is just not the same as the stuff I grew up with. It's like Star Trek - It's all gone off the rails.

I think it really is down to Lucas and his dislike of his earlier "unfinished work" as the seamless branching you mention Andy, must be an easy enough task for someone with his resourses. Totally agree with you Crash about the similarity with Star Trek now. The CG space scenes just don't have that chaotic low-fi feel the originals have. If he ever CG's the ROTJ space battle I will scream!Interestingly, he's at it again with the DVD release of his first movie THX 1138 This new edition is going to feature lots of new effects shots. Shane.
