Babylon 5 and Macross...

Just a note to say that certain people might be interested in the fact that a new, straight to DVD series of Babylon 5 ("Lost Tales") is currently in production, whilst in Japan auditions are being held to find a voice actress for a new Macross series - rumoured to be a TV series."Get the #### out of our Galaxy - but first, a song... "

Aah that is good - I like Macross and I don't hate Babylon 5 but we really need another series of Gundam SEED.

Speaking as a Tomino-era [1] Gundam fan, I think I'm going to have to be diplomatic and say... "possibly". [1] Or "God", as we mecha fans sometimes call him.

I've watched plenty of the old stuff - and granted: the SEED series is a complete rip-off of that but as a series it's really good. If you can ignore the first... 30 episodes of Gundam SEED the end of the series is incredible and the sequel; SEED Destiny is very good as well until near the end.It's just a pity that this last series, Destiny ran into production difficulty due to a bad director. Therefore we simply need another season to remedy what he did to our favourite characters.They have until I make my millions to make it - at which point I'll do it for them.

Heh, I think your first sentence pretty much sums up my feelings for the show. I've seen both TV series, and found them good entertainment, but I can't help but feel they lack the personal touch of the Tomino shows. Granted, this can be a hinderance - Victory, the first half of ZZ - but when hes on form, he is on fire (Ideon pre-empts some of Eva by over a decade, and Turn-A Gundam may be one of the finest SF anime ever - not finest Gundams, finest SF).Oh, and when Tomino kills someone, they are dead. For some reason, I much preferred Destiny to the original SEED series. I'm not sure why. I think I got a feeling that events in Destiny felt that they mattered more somehow.

Aah, I haven't seen Turn-A but for all the Universal Century series I've seen - I couldn't identify with the characters very well. I'll certainly download Turn-A when my current queue shortens. But no, you can't kill Athrun Zala - he's just too lovely. As for the guy who gets 'killed' in the end of SEED, Mwu - well his revival was good and bad, since he's a great character but it screwed up the strongest bit of the first series.I actually quite dislike the first half of SEED, it's very uncomfortable to watch I find - it's very claustrophobic as it just involves the Archangel and very little else. Whereas as soon as Archangel leaves the Earth Forces the whole series just takes off. The ending really made me feel like the world was infact about to end.Destiny is a better series but they obviously ran into production trouble towards the end. The animation falters. (There are infact scenes of the orignal Freedom Gundam using the Meteor Pack rather than the new one in one of the last episodes). It just seemed to run out of episodes in which to finish the series properly due to all the flashbacks. Oh, that and: "what happened to Athrun and the Princess from that ORB island"? How does that make sense?

If Yoshiyuki Tomino is in charge, he will kill anyone he wants. He is the Angel of Death for mecha show characters. Tomino does like to drop the audience into things without much explanation; this can make it a bit tricky to "latch" onto characters in his shows. Turn-A benefits from having a geniunely likable guy for a lead.My guess with the first SEED is that they were aping the first Gundam series, which also has a first half largely set on Earth.
