If anyone was wondering - we're not vanishing. It looks like Dreamhost's code server is fragged.  Files and static pages work so bigdaix.co.uk is OK.  FTP is off as well tho' so I can't stick a sign up telling people what's up(/down).

Oh, god. I had an absolutely horrible experience with Dreamhost about two years ago and, after asking around, I learned that I wasn't in the minority. Apparently the quality of the service has been in a steady decline over the past several years as they've ramped-up these "insane unlimited storage and bandwidth" deals that they can't actually deliver on. I had moved my site to Dreamhost using one of those deals. It ended up being a huge mistake. The performance and uptime were just abysmal, so bad that I ended up moving to a different service after just a few months despite having a bunch of time remaining in my one-year contract. The shared database was pitifully slow, the server's bizarre CGI-based PHP setup was fraught with problems, the machines routinely ran short of memory and stopped serving requests... and then they went and changed their user agreement to nix some of the greater benefits such as using the service for off-site backups. Their support people were unfortunately neutered and couldn't (as in not allowed to, it seemed) help me with me issues, even when I knew and explained exactly what was going on. I wouldn't go back to DH even if someone paid me to.Sorry about the rant. Sore subject, I s'pose.Good luck with the site... hopefully you're overall having an better experience with DH than I did.

Yeah - If I wasn't freeloading I wouldn't be there I don't think. I was thinking the whole thing hadn't been so bad lately.I suppose on the plus side their support people were helpful right when I moved in. They had some sort of ... thing protecting their servers that wouldn't let X-Bomber upload its high scores and they fixed that even though I'm not actually a customer of theirs. But no, if it were my money... there are a lot of really good providers that actually do offer close to what Dreamhost claim to. But at the moment - this is a decent low-cost, low-maintenance spot.

Wow, looks like Dreamhost's whole network is out. - won't even let me on via FTP or let me get into my database. It should be up again tomorrow - I think all they have to solve is a connection issue. It's not like our server has had a hard drive problem or whatever. It seems to be affecting too much of their network for that.I'm gonna grab a shower and then try and get Akina to serve as a backup server until Dreamhost gets itself in gear.

I guess this is the reason for our current outage:http://www.dreamhoststatus.com/2011....2am-pstIf they're on the West coast in LA, then they must be ... 7, 8 hours behind us?They seem to be making a real family meal of it. Hopefully, we'll be back on by tonight. This is rubbish because I wanted to write a comments script for the site today and sharpen my PHP a bit.
