Anyone watched the original series? or know anything about it?Go Nagai's Getter Robo on WikipediaI have the DVD's of the Armageddon series (1988) which is not the original series but I haven't got round to watching it yet.

I know absolutely nothing about anime or Japanese film excluding Star Fleet and Gatchaman.

I've only seen one of the OAVs, but I'm familar with the general type. You may want to check out Mazinkaiser for a similar recent update of Go Nagais original work. Mazinkaiser also has of the best opening themes in anime. "Only the finest violence... "
