It's a matter of personal taste I guess.I lived and breathed Thunderbirds when I was a wee nipper. But as soon as I saw Star Fleet that was Thunderbirds out the window as far as I was concerned. I can't watch it at all now. The long drawn out episodes are mindnumbingly boring, they should have kept them around the half hour mark like they were intended to be in the first place. The key to why Terrahawks is better than Thunderbirds is because the former has a sense of humor.Shane.

So Adam, was it one of the Star Fleet compilation tapes you saw on video?  If so, I can understand why it might have left you a little underwhelmed.  They only just make sense.  It worked better as a serial, because that's the way Japanese shows are written with their prologues and epilogues.  It can also seem a little slow at times because there is a lot of quite adult dialogue at some points.  I always find it interesting when people have such strong anti and pro views for relatively similar shows - sometimes it's a male/female thing and other times it just seems incomprehensible!

It was a few years back, I think it was a compilation video but none of you can encourage me into watching Star Fleet again. I hate every thing in the show, the characters and their stupid names, the animation, the music (typical 80's c**p) and that stupid salute that they do.Since Shane said this about Thunderbirds, I’ll say it about Star Fleet.Star Fleet is mindnumbingly boring.I'm really just an Anderson fan I like Supermarionation and Supermacromation and don't like anything that is similar to any of his shows. eg. Terrahawks-I like      Star Fleet-I don't like      Fireball XL5-I like       Space Patrol-I don't likeBut hey, at least I like Terrahawks, it's not like I’m your arch nemesis now

>>What exactly do you like so much about Thunderbirds?<<Well when you ask me Rachel, you ask the entire world.Thunderbirds is internationally famous, it was shown in 66 countries and one of the successful British TV shows. There's danger and action in every episode, great designs on the 5 Thunderbirds craft, the arch villain The Hood I believe he is the most memorable of all the villains in Andersons shows comparing him toMasterspy and Zarin - SupercarHarper and Judd - SupercarThe Subterrains - Fireball XL5Mr and Mrs Space Spy - Fireball XL5Titan - StingrayX20 - StingrayThe Aquaphibians - StingrayCaptain Black - Captain ScarletThe Mysterons - Captain ScarletJoe 90 didn't have a main bad guy in the show; however, The Eastern Alliance made two appearances in the show (Arctic Adventure and Attack of the Tiger but the Arctic Adventure Alliance were Russian and Attack of the Tiger Alliance were Asian)Secret Service didn't have a main bad guy and none of them made two or more appearancesAlso the aliens in UFOZelda – Terrahawks (Well you already know that )out of all these I think the Hood is the most memorableBut the greatest thing about Thunderbirds and all the other shows is the music by Barry Gray and his talented orchestra. None of his music were used in Terrahawks Well he was dying around the production of Terrahawks but they could have reused some of his old piece of music. I mean the Sea March (From the Stingray episode The Big Gun and from many Thunderbirds episodes and the Joe 90 episode Attack of the Tiger)The Emergency Marineville danger music (From the Stingray episode Emergency Marineville and the Thunderbirds episode The Uninvited)March of the Oysters (From the Stingray episode Secret of the Giant Oyster and the Thunderbirds episodes Day of Disaster)Sunprobe collision music (From the Thunderbirds episode Sunprobe and the Joe 90 episode Lone Handed 90)As well as many more would have been great if they had been used in Terrahawks. The Captain Scarlet Pop music (From White as Snow also in The Secret Service episodes School for Spies and More Haste, Less Speed) would have made a great change if Yung-Star were listening to that instead of one of Kate Kestrels annoying songs.(Edited by Adam at 9:38 am on Oct. 30, 2002)

The thing is I do actually admire the Gerry Anderson shows, without them you wouldn't have Star Fleet. I just think that Thunderbirds, while it has it's good points (the amazing vehicles) is just a little dull, hey I'm in the minority for sure, as any Parent who ever had to get into a fist fight to get one of those funky Tracy Island playsets will testify, the kids just love Thunderbirds.Star Fleet is a true cult show you either love it or hate it. Thunderbirds is a Worldwide brand name. I'm always going to go for the underdog that's why Terrahawks is my fave Gerry Anderson show, I wasn't a child of the 60's, I'm an Eighties kid so Terrahawks is my generations G. Anderson show. I just feel sorry for the kids of the Nineties who had to make do with Space Precinct as their generations' show. Just don't get me Started on Space Precinct. I really hate that show. Anyway arch nemesis Adam,at least we both like Terrahawks that's gotta count for something. Shane.

<<Gerry Anderson didn't inspire the creator of Star Fleet did he?>>Yeah for sure. X Bomber the original Japanese show, was a direct attempt to recreate the Gerry Anderson style of show that was hugely popular in Japan. Unfortunately X Bomber died on it's ass in Japan after just 12 episodes. In one of the episodes if you look closely at the crew's bunks there are a few Thunderbirds pictures pinned on the wall. The Fireflash and Thunderbird 3 if I remember rightly. So there was some definite respect going on there.Shane. (Edited by Shane at 10:11 pm on Oct. 30, 2002)

Some of us will have to agree to differ, re several issues here. I personally thought Thundercats was better than Thunderbirds (I even named a kitten of mine Wilykat).A lot of people weren't allowed to watch ITV? What can be the reason for banning access to every single programme on one channel? If it showed nothing but pornography 24 hours a day, I could understand!Re Gerry Anderson music: I don't think anything could eclipse the Terrahawks theme-tune; I'm listening to it right now, I nearly always access it from the Thawks page here, when I visit the Internet cafe. I like Kate's songs, too (some more than others); incidentally, it's funny that Yungstar and Cystar enjoy dancing to her records, yet they would both be quite happy to see her harmed! Mind you, I don't think they would dare to go against Zelda's evil plans, do you?Returning to Revelation: when you remember how they objected to the Terrahawks Direct site, providing us with copies of two-thirds of the series, they would have an AWFUL nerve if they decided to do the dirty on us, and cancel their own supplies. Talk about dogs in the manger! (I may of course be pre-judging them.)

>>Unfortunately X Bomber died on it's ass in Japan after just 12 episodes.<<I don't mean to be rude but isn't it dead here in the UK? I mean it's not out on DVD/VHS and hasn't been repeated on TV since the 80's.>>Yeah for sure. X Bomber the original Japanese show, was a direct attempt to recreate the Gerry Anderson style of show that was hugely popular in Japan<<And after that Japan came up with an Animie (Not sure if this is the correct spelling) version of Thunderbirds entitled "Thunderbirds 2086" and that was a big pile of crap!
