Here I have posted some blatherings of my own about a recent twitter post that came as a revelation to me, at least: that the X-Bomber and Dai-X models were modified and used as part of an exhibition as late as 1983.

It is more the "Dai-Y" than the "Dai-X"! 😄
This pictures are Amazing! I would never have suspected that The X-Bomber and Dai-x had a second life after the show! It looks like that the props didn't all burn in the fire... I wonder what happened to this red X-bomber and the Dai-Y after that...

Hi Kirara!

This was very interesting to me too, since I had understood that effectively everything relating to the show had been destroyed in a fire at the studio and that this had taken place before the end of airing of Star Fleet on UK TV.

This was what I was told had meant that no second series was possible, when the UK distributors requested that a second series be made.

Perhaps there was a studio fire that did destroy too many sets and too much equipment to make a second season possible, and that X-Bomber and Dai-X were all that was left.

Perhaps they were damaged, explaining why they had to be modified, (as shown).

The other impression that I always got was that middling popularity (and also that the series wrapped itself up with a proper ending anyway) was the initial reason for them not producing a follow-up series, but that doesn't seem like a reason why Enoki would be unable to make a second season, upon request from the UK.

But certainly, it seems that these items 'survived', if you can call that what they did with them. 😅
Another explanation could be that these models were returned to a studio prop warehouse after late 1983 (which is when the UK distributors could have been enquiring about making a second series) and a fire took place there.

I certainly think that we could benefit from interviews with the original Japanese show makers, off the back of the recent expo in Japan, to understand better why no second season could have been made, when it looks as though these models could have been restored (or maybe even used as-is).

It looks as though something was lost in communication between the UK distributors and the Japanese rights-holders back then, or was perhaps slightly misremembered.

Equally, I would be very keen to know what the storyline, plot and details were of the write-up that the UK distributors had created for the second season that they sent to Japan, with a view to having it produced.

I've never come across any detail at all about what their plans were for the second series.
