Gatchaman/BOTP

I had some Gatch stuff when I was about 6 or 7.  I had a non-original cartoon Phoenix that had these little yellow vehciles that fitted into various slots on it, opening beak, that sort of thing.  Possibly fired missiles too, not sure.  I also had a whole sequence of ships, I think there were five total, which could all dock with each other - a white pointy one, snub nosed green one, not sure about the others.  I did find a web site once that identified what I had - none of them were from the original series but I assume some company imported some later Japanese toys.I was only dimly aware that you and Mike collected models like Shane and Gareth, Dave - I don't really go in for the model side of things although I did succumb and get myself a Gundam to sit on top of my anime videos!  Plus I still have my Macross-esque Jetfire from my Transformers collecting days.  Unfortunately the Gatch toys didn't stay with me...  Oh, and videos wise, I have the first volume of the Mollin re-release from last year I think it was.  Are these new DVDs that are due out still the butchered version with 7 Zark 7?

I've got a few Gatchaman/Battle of the Planets goodies:A boxed DX God Phoenix (The bigger version of the chicken one that Mike mentioned)A loose DX God Phoenix (Same as the above but no box and one of the wings has become detached)A boxed Hellisky (Keyop's helicopter thingie)A loose Hound Tank (No missiles and one of the little silver guns on the front has snapped)A loose Eagle Sharp (No missiles and the tail has snapped off)A boxed Yujin figure setGatchaman Materials (A Black and White Japanese reference book)A Japanese Gatchaman DVDThe whole run of Eagle Riders on video (The western dubbed version of Gatchaman II and Gatchaman F thanks to Eric)20 or so Battle of the Planets episodes taped from BravoAnd all the Mollin stuff that came out.I must addmit that BOTP has become more difficult to watch as I have become older. The differences between BOTP and Gatchaman are quite startling. And once you watch a few episodes of Gatchaman you can never view BOTP in the same way again. My favourite BOTP episode however, and one that I remember from when I was a kid, was the one where G Force was taking on this huge Egyptian Giant which they are only able to defeat by transmuting not only the God Phoenix but all the other vehicles as well. I haven't seen this episode since the early Eighties. I know it was released on video the first time around but those early tapes are hard to come by now. Shane.

We are now ;) Coming soon to Another World/Forbidden Planet/Star Store near you hopefully! It's a shame none of the big e-retailers like Amazon deal in comics (although they do deal in graphic novels) - dedicated comics shops are still seem to be quite thin on the ground outside major centres. Although strangely, much of my collection was bought years back (mid to late 80s) from a small newsagent in Rhyl. That's since gone, but now that I think about it, there is actually a specialist comics store in Rhyl - haven't been back that way in quite a while...

Hmmm...pity it's American story/art rather than Japanese, but I suppose that figures, it being BotP rather than Gatchaman...[Happosai]Not a big fan of pseudomanga or westernisation of anime & manga...

Hmm. So, can anyone tell me whether the Warner Bros shows like Batman of the Future are animated by Japanese animators? I really like their style, particularly the Future one, and it just shouts anime influence to me. So I was wondering whether it's the US animators following in that trend or a Japanese company doing the work... BTW, if you can find it, I can recommend the Batman/Superman movie - there are some really funny moments in that, like when Batman IDs Superman!
